“The Render” Podcast

Host // Writer // Producer
MODSY, 2020

In the spring of 2020, I launched, co-hosted, and co-produced an interior design-focused podcast for Modsy, called “The Render.”

Over the course of six episodes, we unpack some of the industry’s biggest trends and phenomena, along with their social and cultural impacts—from why the world is so obsessed with Mid-Century Modern design to the decorating style that all fictional serial killers have in common. We were named one of the “Best design podcasts” by Apartment Therapy and made the top 10 chart of Arts & Design on Apple Podcasts.

04: Where Do Interior Design Trends Come from? And Why Do They Die?

In episode 4, we are joined by yet another special guest, Danielle Walish, the creative director of The Inside. The three of us take a walk down memory lane and revisit some of the most popular trends of the past decades and play a fun game of “Trendy or Timeless.”

05: Fact vs Fiction—What Science Says About Interior Design and Our Happiness

Let’s dig into the science around how our environments impact our moods and mental health. We’re joined by environmental psychologist, Elif Celikors, to help us understand the science behind it all. Spoiler alert: there’s no simple answer.

06: How to “Shelter in Place” Like a Victorian

This episode was recorded during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, when sheltering in place was a new concept. Like a couple of good academics, we looked back at the past to help us understand the present. And what better place to look than at a group of people who spent the majority of their time at home: The Victorians.
